Carlos Gonzalez, originally from Venice, California, discovered a passion for culinary arts while studying Arabic in Morocco. The opportunity of exploring the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia) for a year, allowed him to become highly proficient in Arabic and provided a unique opportunity to cook and learn in many North African kitchens.These masterful chefs and home cooks taught him the finer nuances of breadmaking, the superior flavors of fresh produce, and the proper techniques of low-and-slow hearth cooking. Inspired by his travels in North Africa, Chef Carlos spent many months in Turkey and the Holy Land, becoming a connoisseur of the region’s vast cuisine and eclectic ingredients. In 2014, he opened Al-Tannour, a successful bakery and street food restaurant in Jerusalem’s Old City that focused on fresh ingredients, vibrant presentations, and exceptional service.Chef Carlos continued his culinary journey in Los Angeles at North Italia and later at MHZH, a renowned Israeli restaurant in Silver Lake. As a Chef and Restaurant Consultant, he advises both individuals and restaurants about proper food handling, kitchen organization, and inventory management. As a Private Chef, he entertains company with curious stories around a particular dish and his exhaustive knowledge of food origins, while mesmerizing his guests with funny anecdotes that leave everyone with an unforgettable food experience.
